The origin story of Doctor Strange plays out in this feature. We see his transformation from his life as a doctor of medicine to a wielder of the magic arts. While the plot may resemble that of the DC based movie Batman Begins, it is based solidly in Marvel history.
Stephen Strange is a rich doctor who loses everything after an accident. He finds himself traveling to a Tibetan monastery to reinvent himself and regain his life. They introduce a series of characters that are the sorcerers who protect the nexus from the forces of Dormammu.
Anyone with an interest for Marvel’s storytelling will enjoy this movie. I was even able to get my girlfriend interested despite her natural distaste for animation that even vaguely resembles the traditional “anime” style.
Overall I would say this is a definite renter, worth watching and the bonus features are very entertaining and informative on the history of Doc Strange. However, if you are like me, and have to have things because Marvel put their name on it, then there is no shame in owning this movie.
